Certificate in Foundations for Intercultural Studies (ESOL)
The Certificate in Foundations for Intercultural Studies (ESOL) is an intensive 'English for Second Language Speakers' course which consists of two 20 week semesters. Each semester will take up approximately 378 class contact hours. A student must have at least a 4.5 IELTs level to enter the programme. The certificate's overall objectives are to prepare the student for entry into tertiary study at Eastwest College of Intercultural Studies. More specifically, the programme will endeavour to raise the level of the student's academic English in four major skills: listening, writing, speaking and reading. The student must pass all the assessments within the course structure. By the end of the two semesters it is expected that the student will obtain a general IELTs score of 5.5 or better. For those students entering the course with an IELTs level of 5 may be able to complete the course within one semester depending on whether they obtain the required general IELTs score of 5.5. The programme is totally integrated with the college life and students in terms of devotions, practical work and chapel.
The International English Language Testing System is an external assessment conducted by various agencies in New Zealand. The student will be responsible for contacting the agency for placement and payment of fees.
