Visiting Training Staff

Eastwest College has an established, close working relationship with Columbia International University (CIU) in South Carolina, USA and Wycliffe Bible Translators/SIL. Each year, visiting lecturers from both institutions come to run block courses. These courses, which are open to everyone who is interested, are very popular and usually heavily subscribed. David G. Cashin Ph.D

Subjects at Eastwest: Folk Islam, Spiritual Warfare

Dr. Cashin is professor of intercultural studies at Columbia Biblical Seminary and School of Missions. Dr. Cashin obtained his master of arts and doctor of philosophy in indology from Stockholm University, Stockholm, Sweden. For nine years Dr. Cashin served in Bangladesh as missionary, church planter, educator and development worker with SIM International. Dr. Cashin is the author of several books and has published numerous articles on Islam and other subjects.

Roy M. King DPhil

Subjects at Eastwest: Pastoral Care

Dr Roy King is the director of alumni ministries, teaches the skills of pastoral ministry at Columbia Biblical Seminary (CBS), consults with congregations on being healthy churches, and coaches pastors and Christian leaders to be healthy leaders. Dr King has worked as a youth pastor and as an associate staff member at Campus Crusade for Christ. He was director of the Ben Lippen Conference at Columbia International University and later assistant director of the Billy Graham Training Center in Asheville, North Carolina. He worked as a pastor for many years and joined the CBS faculty in July 1997.

Mike Barnett Ph.D

Subjects at Eastwest: Serving in Teams

Dr. Barnett and his wife Cindy served for 12 years with the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention, working in the 10/40 Window. Previously he served as a minister of missions and a church planter in North America. He has a business background and continues to work in international business development. God’s call on their hearts is to equip the saints for being on mission with God among all peoples on earth!

Bob Ferris Ph.D, Associate Provost, CIU

Subjects at Eastwest: Learning Another Culture

Dr. Robert Ferris has been on the faculty of Columbia Biblical Seminary & School of Missions since 1989. He teaches intercultural studies, missions and Christian education. In 2004, he was appointed Associate Provost of CIU. From 1967-1988 he served as a missionary with SEND International in the Philippines. Dr Ferris has published many articles and has presented papers on theological education at conferences in Asia and Europe. He also led the WEA Missions Commission Task Force on accrediting missionary training programs.

Philip M. Steyne DMiss

Subjects at Eastwest: Biblical Theology of Mission, World Religions

Dr Phil Steyne is professor emeritus at Columbia Biblical Seminary & School of Missions. He has been a faculty member since 1980. Dr Steyne served with The Evangelical Alliance Mission (TEAM), first as principal of the Florence Christian Academy in Swaziland, and later as principal of the Durban Bible College in South Africa. Dr Steyne has served on the boards of both Pioneers and World Mission Associates. He has traveled widely in the interest of world evangelization in Asia, Africa, Europe, Latin America and the South Pacific. He is author of Gods of Power: A Study of the Beliefs and Practices of Animists, and In Step With The God of the Nations: A Biblical Theology of Missions.

Leslie Foster MA(Linguistics)

Subjects at Eastwest: Tools for Language Learning & Linguistic Analysis

Leslie was born in the US and joined Wycliffe Bible Translators in 1984. She spent eight years in Indonesia and Singapore teaching linguistics and English as a second or foreign language in two Indonesian universities, Kartidaya (Indonesian Wycliffe Affiliate Organisation) and Asia SIL. Since April 1999, Leslie has been a trainer for Wycliffe Bible Translators New Zealand where she has been teaching language learning and linguistics in New Zealand and around the Asia-Pacific area.

Michael Duncan M.Theol, BA(Sociology)

Subjects at Eastwest: Development, Social Work

Michael was converted out of the drug culture and eastern
mysticism in his early twenties. Since studying at the Missionary
Training College in Australia, Michael has pastored churches in
urban settings New Zealand and Australia. He and his wife
Ruby, with their children spent nine years serving God in the
slums of Manila. He is a sought after speaker and visiting lec-
turer at several colleges in New Zealand, Australia, and else-
where. Michael has studied theology, ethics and development
studies at Oxford University.
